WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that the marks of a maturing church are FAITH, HOPE, and LOVE.
Colossians 1:3-6
We give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love which you have for all the saints; because of the hope laid up for you in heaven, of which you previously heard in the word of truth, the gospel which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth.

Therefore, we place a high emphasis on the verse-by-verse teaching of God’s Word, that our FAITH may grow. Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ.

We live in HOPE and anticipation of the return of Jesus Christ, for He is our Blessed Hope. Titus 2:13 Looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus

We desire the fullness of His Spirit in our lives, for the fruit of the Spirit is LOVE. By our love shall all men know that we are His disciples. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.

We believe that the only true basis for Christian fellowship is His AGAPE LOVE, which is greater than any difference we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians. -
John 13:35 & 1 Corinthians 13 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

We believe WORSHIP of God should be:
  • Spiritual ... therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit in our worship.
  • Inspirational ... therefore, we give great place to music and the arts in our worship.
  • Intelligent ... therefore, our services are designed with a major emphasis upon clear teaching through the Word.
  • Fruitful ... therefore, we look for His love as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshiping.
In order to identify CSD as biblically orthodox in theology, and evangelical in spirit, we set forth this statement of our fundamental beliefs:
  1. We believe the 66 books of the Bible to be the inspired, authoritative, sufficient, perspicuous, exclusive Word of God. We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament as being verbally and completely inerrant in the original writings and of supreme and final authority in faith and life, for every individual Christian, as well as for the Church collectively. We believe that God has not added to, deleted from, or altered the canon of the Bible with subsequent writings and revelations. We believe in a historical-grammatical interpretation of the Bible, taking exception only for the obvious metaphors and similes. We act on this belief by putting forth the entire word of God in a book-by-book, verse-by-verse fashion, giving His people the whole counsel of His revealed Word to us.(2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:21, John 10:35)
  2. We believe there is only one God, eternally existing in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each distinct from the other, and each are fully God, yet they are perfectly harmonized in their Triune Being. We believe that all things were created by Him and for Him. (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1, 3, 4:24; Isaiah 45:21-22, Romans 1:19-20; Matthew 28:19, Ephesians 4:5-6; 1 Timothy 1:17)
  3. We believe in the person of God the Father, an infinite, eternal, sovereign, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all those who come to Him through Jesus Christ (Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalm 90:2, 102:27; John 3:16, 4:24; I Timothy 1:17; Titus 1:3).
  4. We believe in the deity of our Lord, Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His substitutionary atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His future personal and visible return to this earth in power and glory, and His present life for us as High Priest and Advocate. (Isaiah 53:10-12; John 1:1,14; 20:28, 30-31; Matthew 1:18-25, 2 Corinthians 5:21, 1 Peter 3:18, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Hebrews 10:12-13)
  5. We believe the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son to bring glory to the Father and the Son, to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. We believe the Holy Spirit regenerates and indwells and seals every believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that He empowers us to live as witnesses for Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit is our Comforter, Teacher, Guide, and Guarantor of our inheritance in Christ. We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life characterized by love. We believe He gives spiritual gifts for the purpose of building up the Body of Christ. (John 14:16-17, 26, 15:26-27, 16:7-14; Ezekiel 36:25-27; Titus 3:5-6, Romans 8:9, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20, Ephesians 1:13-14, Acts 1:8, Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12-14, 1 Peter 4:10-11)
  6. We believe that God created human beings, male and female, in His own image. He created them sinless, equal in value, dignity, and worth. According to His purpose and design, men and women are created to fulfill distinct but complementary roles in the contexts of marriage, family, and church life. (Genesis 1:26-28, Ephesians 5:22-6:4, 1 Timothy 3:1-7)
  7. We also believe that man sinned (the Fall) and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death (separation from God) and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature, and, in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word, and deed. All people are in need of a Savior, and Jesus Christ is the one and only Savior of the world. We believe that lost and sinful man must be saved, and that man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scripture as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who, by the Holy Spirit, repent and believe in Him are redeemed and justified on the grounds of His shed blood. We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Him. We believe that all who call on the name of the Lord shall be saved eternally. We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation. (Romans 3:10, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:18-19, Matthew 1:21, 1 John 4:14, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 10:9)
  8. We believe there is one church, the body of Christ, consisting of men and women from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation. We believe that each local congregation is an expression of that universal church. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 4:4, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Revelation 5:9, Acts 2:42-47)
  9. We believe in the personal, bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe Christ will come to earth to sit upon the throne of David and establish His messianic kingdom. During this time the resurrected saints will reign with Him over Israel and all the nations of the earth.
  10. We believe that the nation of Israel has a special place in God’s plan, and that all of the promises of God to Israel will be fulfilled both now and in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ in His millennium. We reject Replacement Theology and all ramifications that derive from this false view. (Genesis 12:3, Psalm 122:1; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Titus 2:13; John 14:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:51-53; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-5:11; Ezekiel 37:21-28; Zechariah 8:1-17; Isaiah 65:17-25; Revelation 19:11-16; Revelation 20:1-7, Luke 1:31-33, Isaiah 9:6-7)
  11. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead. Some will be raised to life, and some to shame and everlasting punishment along with Satan and his fallen angels. We believe that God will create a new heaven and earth in which righteousness will dwell. We believe that the throne of God and the Lamb (Jesus Christ) will be established in the New Jerusalem forever. (Daniel 12:2, John 5:25-29, Revelation 21:1-22:5)
  12. We believe in a literal devil and his host of fallen angels, and that he is at work in the world today. We believe that Satan is a created being, and as such he is limited in presence and power. We believe that we should walk in the victory that was afforded us by Jesus Christ on the cross. We believe that Satan has no power over true believers.
  13. We believe that God is worthy of all praise, reverence, and love; and that the highest calling of a believer is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
  14. We believe marriage has been ordained by God. This Word of God clearly defines “marriage” as the exclusive covenantal union of one man and one woman in which such union is a lifetime commitment.  We believe that the solemnizing of a marriage is a sacred and profound event that shall be entered into only where the proposed covenantal union is in compliance with the Word of God. (Genesis 4:1)
  15. The church will observe regularly the two New Testament ordinances of believers’ baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These ordinances are observed in obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ, as acts of love and devotion, and are not considered to be necessary for our salvation.
